]]>It is well known that the burden on the Palestinian health system is complex as the Gaza Strip is going through a difficult political, economic and humanitarian situation. Moreover, non-communicable diseases including heart diseases, cancer, diabetes mellitus and cerebra-vascular diseases had dramatically increased.
The siege imposed on Gaza has its grave consequences on the performance of the health organizations. Furthermore, injuries resulting from the recurrent Israeli incursions, lack of safety measures at the community and household levels and the internal Palestinian conflict constitute an additional burden on the Palestinian health system. Therefore, we established a Health Care Centre to provide basic health care services for the needy people in some priority areas in the Gaza Strip e.g. Jaballia.
The Healthcare Centre is located at Jabalia, and provides services for more than 80,000 persons, the people who live under the poverty line at that area over 70%, and unemployment rate over than 85%, The average number of independents for the family is seven persons.
]]>From November 2012 to April 2013, work was carried out on the the following projects:
57 free Medical Camps established treating over 60,000 patients
Measles continues to be a problem in Sindh due to a weak routine immunization program. Since 2010 there have been a number of outbreaks in flood affected areas. The situation worsens in winters due to overcrowding and the airborne nature of infection transmission. Displacement affects more easily children and poor nutrition leads to lowered immunity which further increases the vulnerability of children. Lack of access to life saving healthcare during emergencies further compounds the impact of the disease leading to high mortality among infected children. We established 17 Vaccination camps in Sukkur, Sindh treating 22000 patients.
Screening and Vaccination of Hepatitis.
Around 12 million people in Pakistan are suffering from hepatitis B and C, with Balochistan topping the list followed by Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In March 2013, camps were established In Jafarabad, Balochistan proving screening and vaccinations for over 3500 patients
]]>The volunteer Doctor’s, Nurse’s and organizers used the camp as an opportunity to raise awareness on basic medical issues, hygienic and unhygienic behaviors, and preventative health care. The villagers responded positively to the discussions and expressed their appreciation that an effort was being made to bring attention to such issues. Overall, the medical camps ran smoothly and were deemed a success by all involved.
MW Trust is grateful to Al-Sarwar Foundation without whom this camp was not possible, they made all arrangements and provided all the Doctor’s, Nurse’s and local volunteers. Food was served to each and every patient that attended the camp.
Our sincere gratitude and thanks to Al-Sarwar Foundation, Mr Aijaz Kiyani, Brig. Dr Asif Gul Kiyani and all the local people who gave their time without them it would not been possible to have such a successful Medical Camp
